MERRILL PULLOVER

Job type Test knit
Description

This is a beta knitting test for Brooklyn Tweed.

Remember that fisherman’s knit sweater you bought at a thrift store your first year in college? I do! I remember that it was thick and scratchy, slightly felted and warm enough to wear as a coat on milder days. I remember how it smelled and that it was probably made with great love by someone’s grandmother. Merrill is that sweater. Though it is softer and lighter, it is still warm and enveloping, durable and perfect with everything from a pleated skirt to your jammies.

Vintage cabling and double moss texture are highlighted by slick saddle shoulder shaping. A circular motif is echoed and re-echoed in ropey, textured ovals that reverberate as twisted ellipses and honeycomb panels. The pullover is edged all round in 1x1 ribbing and features a hemmed crew neck.

Merrill is worked from the top down beginning with the shoulder “saddles”. Stitches are picked up along the saddle edges and fronts and back are worked downward from there. Short rows are used to shape the sleeve caps which are worked from stitches picked up at armhole edges.

Requirements from the maker

PLEASE KEEP THE DETAILS OF THIS TEST COMPLETELY SECRET! Approximately 14 days prior to launch, you'll be invited to share teasers and close-ups.

  • Feel free to email progress photos to me as often as you like! Brooklyn Tweed really appreciates progress updates and so do I.
  • Testers are required to submit photos of their initial swatches.
  • We'll be working primarily through email, but please feel free to use the chat room to communicate with me and with other testers. If you have a specific question or problem, please email me directly before posting problems in the chat room. This will ensure that your questions are answered promptly. I'll be issuing draft updates with changes tracked on an as-needed basis.
  • After the testing process is complete, I'll need you to complete a short survey that includes specific questions about the fit of your garment and the ease of using the pattern instructions. The survey also offers an opportunity for you to share your open-ended feedback.
  • Testers are asked to create Ravelry projects with your beta samples. You'll be supplied with a Ravelry tester code approximately 7 weeks before launch.
  • You do not need to use Brooklyn Tweed yarn for this beta project. Should you choose to use Shelter however, BT offers a 40% discount on their core yarns (Arbor, Dapple, Loft, Peerie, Quarry and Shelter). Beta knitters are welcome to order yarn in addition to what's needed for this particular project.
  • Testers are required to wet block and photograph their finished samples.
