I’m a 27-year-old knitting and crocheting pattern designer, content creator and general crafting chaos on legs.
This means I’m very much not a monogamous knitter/crocheter. I get inspired quite quickly and love to try out new things. I‘m currently very much into cotton and cotton-blend yarns, feeling the spring-summer vibes already. Although I mostly knit these days, I also crochet and have designed some crochet patterns before.

About my patterns
I basically have two different types of patterns in general:

1. Self-designed and published patterns, of which for instance the Strangle Me With Fashion Top is one. These go through the regular process of size grading, testing and then publishing here on Ravelry and these are mostly paid patterns. I am committed to covering inclusive size ranges with these and if you ever find one of them to not include the size you require, message me on Ravelry via DM or send me an email at chiara@craftychiara.com.
2. Patterns made on commission for yarni.ch. These are patterns I make for the online shop I work at, which are free patterns released in German and many of them are here on Ravelry. I’m working on translating these into English and adding them to Ravelry. These patterns are not tested and therefore, the ones that are not made according to street-sizes, but made to measure, only display a few sizes. This doesn’t mean you can only use the pattern for these few sizes, it only means that the further away the sizes got to the one I made, the less accurate the calculations for the yarn quantities got and I did not want to make recommendations that are inaccurate.

Why I do what I do
What I love most about knitting/crocheting is the awesome community and the unique opportunity we have to celebrate other people‘s creative work, by loving and recreating their patterns and put our personal twist on them. I love sharing and talking all things knitting and crocheting - if that sounds good to you, then please do reach out, follow or do whatever is comfortable to you.

YouTube
Recently, I started a new journey of creating videos for YouTube. Since I work at a yarn online shop and knit for at least 2-3 hrs every day, I have so much knowledge I’d like to share. This is why I started the Youtube channel CraftyChiara. ’ve already uploaded a few videos, including a three-part tutorial series that covers the process from learning how to knit to knitting a first sweater (of course I had to start making YouTube videos with an extremely ambitious project like this one). It would mean the world to me if you decided to follow me there.

TikTok
I started posting my projects on line by uploading short-form-videos to TikTok. This started my content creation journey and I love how accessible and low-effort posting videos to TikTok can be. I still post at least once a week on there.

Instagram
I find Instagram harder to please than TikTok and YouTube and although the community is huge on there, you can’t easily get people to find you. So I mostly use Instagram to DM and post updates from time to time, but mostly in stories. It’s a good channel to find updates about my work, both pattern designing as well as content creation in general. I also post about other knitting and crocheting patterns I make, using patterns by other designers.

As you’re probably aware, it’s hard to make a living off of the designs I make and the content I create. I am far far away from breaking even or even making a penny. This is very much okay, as it is my passion project and my semi-professional hobby.
